Spiritual Direction’ is a term that many people might not be familiar with. On the surface it sounds like a variation on telling people where to go or what to do (made all the more dangerous because it can be couched in religious sounding language).
The good news is that spiritual direction is not about directing people at all. Rather it’s about helping them discern their spiritual direction, mapping for themselves their own unique spiritual journey.
I am trained in several traditions within the broad field of spiritual direction. They each offer different ways of approaching our spiritual journey through life. They help us know ourselves better and know what works for each of us.
We are not just our bodies. We are not just our minds. We are not just our emotions. There seems to be in all of us something bigger, or an aspiration to something bigger, whether you call it ‘the search for meaning’ or ‘the transcendent’ or ‘God, Life and the Universe.’
Spiritual Direction is about discerning the spiritual movements and currents in our lives, getting clear about what’s going on and where we each need to be heading. My aim as a spiritual director is to support the work of the divine spirit in each of us and assist people to take their deepest journey.
